Thonglor Swimmers Find Relief in Outdoor Pools During July Heat
Thonglor swimmers are heading to dedicated outdoor facilities along Sukhumvit Soi 55 for structured lap sessions amid the July heat.
How we reported this
Thonglor residents have increased visits to two specific outdoor lap facilities this month, with daily counts at the Thonglor Rock Pool reaching 180 users on weekdays.
The push comes as Bangkok temperatures climbed above 34 degrees Celsius in early July 2026, prompting local wellness groups to promote open-air swimming over indoor gyms. The Thonglor Wellness Association launched its summer lap program on 1 July, offering timed sessions that avoid peak humidity hours between 10am and 2pm.
Named facilities in the neighbourhood
The Thonglor Rock Pool sits at the end of Sukhumvit Soi 55 near the Phrom Phong BTS exit 3, featuring a 30-metre rock-lined lane section carved into a former drainage basin. Swimmers share the site with the adjacent Thonglor Community Garden, which supplies shaded rest areas. A second option operates at the Wellspring Outdoor Pool on Soi Thong Lor 10, managed by the same association and fitted with lane ropes that divide the 25-metre basin into six tracks.
Both sites opened their lap programs after upgrades completed in late 2025. Entry costs 120 baht for adults and includes access to filtered water stations. Data collected by the association shows average lap counts of 40 lengths per session, with peak attendance between 6am and 8am before office commuters arrive.
Practical steps for new users
Swimmers should arrive with their own goggles and a towel, as the facilities rent kickboards only. Sessions run on the hour from 5am to 9pm, and participants must sign a simple waiver at the gate. Those with existing medical conditions are advised to check with a doctor at the nearby Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital before starting a new routine.
The association plans to add night lighting at the Rock Pool by September, extending hours during the remaining rainy season months.
