Silom Cycling Routes Cater to Families and Beginners
Protected paths near Silom Road give new riders and parents with children a low-stress way to pedal through green space.
How we reported this

Families in Silom gained easier access to marked cycling lanes this month when the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration completed resurfacing work on the inner loop at Lumphini Park.
The upgrade arrives as more residents seek outdoor exercise close to home after months of high temperatures that kept many indoors during daylight hours.
Lumphini Park and Surasak connections
The 1.2-kilometre sealed track inside Lumphini Park now carries separate lanes for bicycles and pedestrians, with entry points at the gates on Rama IV Road and Wireless Road. Riders who want a longer outing can continue from the park’s western exit onto the flat riverside path that runs beside Charoen Krung Road and ends at Sathorn pier. The same route passes the Surasak BTS station, where a small fleet of rental bikes is available from 8 a.m. daily.
Parents report that the gentle gradient and frequent shade make the stretch suitable for children on training wheels or balance bikes. The path stays away from the heavier traffic on Silom Road itself, using service roads and underpasses where needed.
Costs and usage numbers
Bike rental at the Surasak station costs 150 baht for the first two hours and 50 baht for each additional hour, with helmets provided at no extra charge. City records show that weekday morning use of the Lumphini loop rose 28 percent between January and June this year compared with the same period in 2025.
Staff from the BMA’s Parks Department have placed distance markers every 500 metres and installed two drinking fountains along the Surasak-to-pier section. Maintenance crews sweep the surface three times a week.
Beginners can start with a single lap of Lumphini Park and extend the ride once they feel comfortable. Riders are asked to keep speeds below 15 kilometres per hour on the shared sections and to yield at the marked pedestrian crossings. Those planning an early start should arrive before 7 a.m. to avoid the heat that builds after 9 a.m. A water bottle and basic repair kit fit easily into the basket on the rental bikes.
