Silom cycling routes safe for families and beginners open new options in city parks
Bangkok's Silom district expands family-friendly bike paths through established green spaces amid rising local interest in outdoor activity.
How we reported this
Silom residents gained new mapped cycling options this month with marked paths through Lumpini Park and along the Sathorn waterfront that city planners designated for low-traffic use by families and new riders.
Wellness groups in the district have tracked growing demand for beginner routes since early 2025, when Bangkok Metropolitan Administration added bike lanes on several central corridors. Parents and first-time cyclists now seek places where traffic speeds stay under 20 kilometres per hour and where rental bikes include child seats or training wheels.
Routes through Lumpini and Benchasiri
Lumpini Park on Rama IV Road offers a 2.5-kilometre loop that stays inside park boundaries and connects to a short extension along Silom Road as far as Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra Road. Benchasiri Park, two blocks south on Sukhumvit Soi 24, provides an additional 1.8-kilometre flat circuit with shaded sections and nearby restrooms. Both sites sit within a 15-minute ride of the Silom BTS station and accept drop-off returns at three staffed kiosks operated by the Bangkok Cycling Network.
The network recorded 4,200 family-group rentals during the first half of 2026, up from 3,100 in the same period last year. Hourly rentals at the Lumpini kiosk cost 150 baht for standard bikes and 220 baht for models fitted with child carriers. Sessions run from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, with helmets supplied at no extra charge.
Next steps for new riders
Beginners can start at the Lumpini main gate on Phra Ram IV Road, collect a map from the information booth and follow the green route markers that avoid the park's busier central paths. Riders who want a longer outing can continue south on the protected lane beside Sathorn Road to reach the riverfront promenade at the end of Soi 3. Local trainers from the Silom Wellness Collective hold free 30-minute orientation sessions at 7 a.m. on Saturdays for anyone who registers at the park office the day before.
