Riverside Bangkok Residents: Join Free 5km Parkruns This July
Riverside Bkk residents can join free Saturday morning 5km runs at several riverfront and park locations that draw steady crowds this July.
How we reported this
Parkrun events drew 320 participants across two Riverside Bkk sites last Saturday, with starts at 7 a.m. along the Chao Phraya and in adjacent green spaces.
Interest has grown since the start of the rainy season as locals look for low-cost exercise options that fit around work schedules in Bang Rak and Sathorn districts. Community fitness groups have promoted the runs through local apps and notice boards near ferry piers, noting that the format requires no membership or payment.
Riverside routes that host weekly events
The 5km course along the riverfront promenade at Iconsiam begins near the Charoen Krung Road entrance and loops past the old customs house before returning to the mall plaza. Another established run takes place on the paths inside Benjakitti Park, entered from the Sukhumvit Soi 24 side, where runners share the flat 2.5km circuit twice before finishing near the lake edge. Both locations provide water stations and timed results posted the same morning on the parkrun Thailand site.
Records from parkrun Thailand show average finish times of 27 minutes 45 seconds for the Riverside Bkk events in June, with 18 volunteers on hand each week to manage check-ins and safety. Registration remains free through the parkrun website, though participants must print or display a barcode on their phone. Events run regardless of light rain, with the next ones scheduled for 11 July at both spots.
How to join this weekend
Arrive 15 minutes early at either the Iconsiam riverfront plaza or the Benjakitti Park gate on Sukhumvit Soi 24 to complete a quick sign-in. Runners and walkers of all paces are welcome, and many finish with coffee at nearby stalls along Charoen Krung Road. Those new to the format can review the course map on the parkrun app the night before and carry a reusable water bottle, as temperatures already reach 30 degrees by 8 a.m.
