Bangkok Urban Youth Tournament Returns With Five Sports, Hundreds Competing

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration opened the Dream Stadium project in May 2025 beneath the Phahon Yothin expressway to host youth competitions in futsal, sepak takraw and basketball. That facility now anchors the finals phase of the second Bangkok Urban Youth Tournament, where teams from varied neighbourhoods will contest the remaining matches in five sports.

Dream Stadium and the Tournament Schedule

The tournament runs as part of the larger Bangkok Urban Youth Games series, which spans five months and operates under the patronage of Thailand's IOC member Khunying Patama. Organisers designed the series to give refugee and disadvantaged youth access to regular training and match play at fixed venues across the city. The second edition already staged preliminary rounds in futsal, 3x3 basketball, sepak takraw, badminton and muaythai, mixing participants from different socio-economic groups.

Phahon Yothin expressway space converted into the Dream Stadium supplies three of the core sports, while additional sessions occur at district courts and halls that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration maintains for the games. The structure keeps costs low for families and removes travel barriers that previously limited participation from outer districts.

Path to the 2030 Youth Olympics Bid

Thailand continues to promote its existing venues in Bangkok and Chonburi as the backbone of a 2030 Youth Olympic Games bid. The current tournament series functions as a live test of those sites, allowing officials to measure daily operations and youth engagement numbers ahead of any formal inspection. Nineteen locations in Bangkok alone are listed for 22 sports under the bid documents, with university campuses earmarked as the main athletes' village.

Next steps for teams centre on the remaining pool matches and knockout rounds that will determine the final standings.
