The Election Commission’s 2026 Candidate Spotlight Mandate requires every Bangkok district to organise at least two public candidate sessions before the October district elections, yet Thonglor has scheduled five sessions under an additional local provision passed by the Watthana District Office in May.
The rule change follows the commission’s March circular that directed districts to increase direct candidate exposure ahead of the polls. The circular sets minimum standards for meeting length and topics but leaves room for districts to add events with their own budgets.

Thonglor residents living near Sukhumvit Soi 55 will see the extra sessions held at the Thonglor Community Hall on 12 August, 9 September and 7 October. Each session will cover transport links, waste collection schedules and market stall fees, topics raised in previous district meetings. In contrast, residents in Phra Khanong and Huai Khwang will attend only the two required meetings at their respective district offices.
Policy analysts note that the additional Thonglor sessions are funded through the district’s 2026 operating budget line for civic engagement, listed at 1.2 million baht. Neighbouring districts received an average of 800,000 baht for the same purpose in the same budget document released by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in April.
Next steps for voters and candidates
The first Thonglor forum is expected to begin registration on 1 August through the district website. Candidates must submit their participation forms by 25 July to appear on the printed programme distributed to households in the 10110 postcode area. The Watthana District Office will publish attendance numbers within ten days after each event.
