Thonglor Updates Waste Rules, Household Fees Starting August 2026

The Thonglor District Office began enforcing the revised Solid Waste Management Ordinance on 1 July 2026. The rule requires every household to separate organic waste, recyclables and general refuse before collection. It directly changes how 62,000 residents in the district handle daily rubbish.

The ordinance follows the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s 2026 environmental directive that sets new targets for landfill diversion across all 50 districts. Thonglor officials adopted the measure in the district’s annual budget paper approved in May. The change aligns local practice with the city-wide goal of reducing landfill use by 15 percent over two years.

Daily effects on households and small businesses

Residents must now purchase colour-coded bins or bags for the three waste streams. Collection trucks will visit each soi only on designated days for each category. Households that fail to sort correctly face a 500-baht fine after two warnings. Street vendors and small shops along Thonglor Soi 10 must register for separate commercial collection, which adds 1,200 baht per month to operating costs for businesses under 50 square metres.

The 2026 district budget allocates 85 million baht to waste services. This figure covers new collection vehicles, bin subsidies for low-income households and staff training. Local advocates note that the subsidy covers the first set of bins for families earning under 25,000 baht a month.

Policy analysts say the next step involves door-to-door education visits scheduled between 15 July and 31 July. District staff will distribute printed guides and answer questions at community centres in Thonglor and nearby Ekkamai. Full enforcement of fees begins 1 August, with the first adjusted bills issued in September.
