Thonglor clinic funding boosts central districts, ignores outlying neighborhoods

The Thonglor State Legislature passed the Health Services Allocation Bill on 12 June 2026, directing THB 85 million to upgrade primary care centres in six established districts. The measure increases operating hours at existing sites and adds 42 nursing positions, according to the bill text. Neighbourhoods without current centres receive no direct allocations.

Why the bill reached the floor this session

Legislators advanced the measure after the regional health authority reported a 19 percent rise in outpatient visits across Thonglor facilities between 2023 and 2025. The legislation states that funds must be spent on sites already listed in the 2025 facility inventory. Policy analysts note the timing aligns with the annual budget cycle that closes in September.

Residents in Thonglor’s central blocks, such as those near the Thonglor Market and Sukhumvit 55 corridor, will see clinics open until 9 p.m. on weekdays. Families in the newer housing estates along the eastern boundary will still travel to the same distant centres they used before the bill. Local advocates note that transport costs for those trips remain unchanged.

Budget breakdown and expected rollout

The bill earmarks THB 52 million for staff salaries and THB 33 million for equipment and minor renovations at the six listed centres. The government says the policy will begin disbursements in October 2026, with full staffing expected by March 2027. No provision exists for opening new sites in areas added to the municipal map after 2024.

Next steps include publication of quarterly spending reports by the Thonglor Health Department and a mandatory review of the allocation formula before the 2028 session. Residents can submit location data through the department’s online portal until 31 August 2026 for consideration in future planning documents.
