Sukhumvit rolls out major parking rule changes starting October 2026

The Sukhumvit mayor's office published the implementation schedule for amendments to the Local Traffic Management Act on 8 July 2026. The changes introduce time-limited parking restrictions and updated fine structures across 12 designated zones. Residents who own vehicles or rely on street parking near commercial stretches will see the first adjustments take effect on 15 October.

The council passed the amendments in May after reviewing congestion data collected along Sukhumvit Road between Soi 4 and Soi 24. District records show daily vehicle entries in those segments rose by 18 percent between 2023 and 2025. The legislation directs the traffic department to install new signage and begin patrols in two phases rather than a single citywide launch.

Households in the Phrom Phong and Thong Lo areas will experience the initial phase through extended enforcement hours from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays. Delivery drivers and shop owners operating on Soi 11 will face a new requirement to register for short-term loading permits by December. The second phase, scheduled for March 2027, extends the same rules to residential sois east of Soi 36.

Budget allocation and staffing details

The 2026 district budget paper allocates 85 million baht specifically for the traffic amendments. Of that amount, 52 million baht covers new parking meters and camera installations, while 33 million baht funds 47 additional enforcement officers. Council documents list these figures under the transport infrastructure line item approved in the March sitting.

Next steps for residents

The traffic department will open an online permit portal on 1 September and hold three in-person registration sessions at the district office in October. Residents who receive violation notices after 15 October can appeal through the existing local administrative tribunal process. The government projects full coverage of all listed zones by the end of the first quarter of 2027.
