State Transportation Infrastructure Bill Allocates Riverside Bkk Road Funds to Central Districts Only

The Riverside State Legislature approved the Transportation Infrastructure Allocation Bill on 28 June 2026. The measure directs $18 million to Riverside Bkk for resurfacing and traffic signal work along 15 kilometres of roads inside the central business and residential grid.
State budget documents released with the bill show the funds come from a larger $120 million statewide package. Riverside Bkk qualifies because its main corridors meet the population-density threshold written into the legislation. Districts outside that core do not meet the same test.
Who receives the work and who does not
Households along Riverside Avenue and the blocks between Third and Seventh Streets will see crews replace cracked pavement and install new left-turn signals by March 2027. Delivery drivers and bus riders on those routes stand to gain shorter travel times once the surfaces are levelled. Property owners in those same blocks will face temporary lane closures during construction but no new local taxes to cover the state-funded work.
Residents east of the river and workers in the industrial zone along Port Road receive no new paving or signal money under the same bill. Those areas fall below the density requirement and therefore sit outside the allocation map published by the Department of Transport. Commuters from those neighbourhoods will continue using the existing road surfaces until a future funding round includes them.
The bill text states that 60 percent of the $18 million must be spent on pavement replacement and the remaining 40 percent on intersection improvements. City engineers have already identified the specific segments that match those categories. No discretionary spending outside those segments is permitted under the legislation.
Implementation timeline
Bid documents for the first phase of work will be released by the city public works office in September 2026. Construction contracts are expected to be awarded before the end of the calendar year. The government projects that all funded segments will be completed within 18 months of contract signing.
Local advocates note that subsequent state budget cycles could expand the eligible area if the density formula is revised. Until then the current map determines which Riverside Bkk streets receive attention and which do not.
