Chatuchak Raises Water, Electricity Rates Starting August 2026

The Chatuchak mayor's office has begun rollout of the Utility Tariff Adjustment Policy, which revises municipal water and electricity connection charges and applies to all 118,000 households registered in the district.

The measure follows the release of the Chatuchak Municipal Budget for fiscal year 2026, which recorded a 12 percent rise in bulk energy purchase costs from the national grid operator between January and May. Local government officials cited the need to align service fees with those increased input costs while maintaining revenue for infrastructure maintenance.

Changes to household payment schedules

Under the adjustment, the fixed monthly connection fee for residential water supply rises from 85 baht to 95 baht, while the per-unit electricity distribution charge increases by 0.12 baht. The legislation states that low-income households already enrolled in the district's existing subsidy registry will receive an offsetting credit of 120 baht per month on their combined bill.

Policy analysts say a typical two-person household consuming 150 units of electricity and 18 cubic metres of water will face an additional outlay of 38 baht each month after the credit is applied. Families outside the subsidy registry will absorb the full increment, which the budget paper projects will generate an extra 42 million baht in annual municipal revenue.

Implementation timeline and resident steps

The government says the policy will take effect on 1 August 2026, with updated bills issued from that date. Residents can review their eligibility for the credit through the municipal online portal or at district service centres starting 15 July. The Chatuchak City Council has scheduled a public briefing for 22 July to explain calculation methods and payment options.
