Chatuchak Vendors Face New Permit Deadline: December 2026

The Street Vendor Regulation Bill, passed by the national legislature in June 2026, requires all vendors in designated market zones including Chatuchak to obtain updated operating permits through the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. The measure applies to an estimated 12,000 stalls across the district and ties permit validity to compliance with zoning maps released last month.

Legislators advanced the bill after the 2025 annual review of market overcrowding reports showed persistent disputes over space allocation in high-traffic areas. The legislation establishes a single renewal window each year instead of rolling deadlines previously managed by district offices.

Permit Process and Local Costs

Under the new schedule, Chatuchak vendors must submit applications between 1 October and 31 December 2026. Renewal notices will be mailed to registered addresses starting in September. Traders who miss the window face a 30-day grace period followed by suspension of their current permits.

Residents who sell goods at the weekend market will pay a base fee of 4,500 baht for a one-year permit, up from the previous 3,200 baht rate. The legislation states that the increase funds expanded enforcement teams and digital tracking systems operated by the district office. Shoppers may notice gradual price adjustments on items such as produce and clothing once vendors incorporate the higher fixed cost into their operating budgets from March 2027 onward.

Next Steps and Enforcement Dates

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will open online application portals on 15 September 2026. District staff will hold information sessions at the Chatuchak district office on the second Saturday of each month through November. Final permit cards are projected to be issued by 28 February 2027, after which unpermitted vending becomes subject to daily fines listed in the bill.

Policy analysts note that the staggered rollout means most Chatuchak households will first encounter changes through higher stall prices in early 2027 rather than through direct permit interactions. The government says the policy will reduce spatial conflicts reported in previous market surveys by centralising records at the metropolitan level.
