Italian-Thai Development has secured a state contract to build the 16.2-kilometer Chatuchak-Lam Luk Ka extension of the Chalongrach Expressway, with construction starting in November 2025 and completion projected for 2027 at an estimated cost of 24 billion baht.

Expressway and Rail Links

The expressway work connects directly to existing routes in Chatuchak. Bang Sue Grand Station, located in Chatuchak, serves as ASEAN's largest rail hub and is integrated with the new Red Line extension and other transport development projects worth 133 billion baht. A high-voltage power station has been constructed at Chatuchak to support electricity transmission for the Bang Sue Grand Station and SRT Red Lines. Residents who rely on these routes for work or travel to Mor Chit Bus Terminal may experience shifts in traffic patterns during construction phases.

Park and Walkway Upgrades

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is upgrading public restrooms and pedestrian walkways at Chatuchak Park as part of a broader public infrastructure modernization initiative, with renovations delayed past the original December 2024 completion date. These changes target daily use of the park by nearby households and visitors who walk its paths regularly.

Land and Legal Issues

A smart city project involving an elevated road linking Mor Chit Bus Terminal to the Don Muang Tollway faces legal challenges in Chatuchak district over land expropriation of 40.51 rai for the infrastructure development. Local access to affected areas could remain uncertain while disputes continue.
